Some of us end up in the habit (as in garb) of a nun, brother or priest after taking vows to commit ourselves in a very special way to service in the Church. All of us though need to get into habits (as in behaviors) to sustain us as we grow in our faith.
Your mom is not here to yell at you to get yourself out of bed and go to church- you know that. Don't be lazy and let your relationship with God fall apart for lack of effort on your part- do something.
Here at Elmhurst College, one of the slogans that you'll see hanging around is from the United Church of Christ, "God is Still Speaking." It's true, God is still speaking. Are you listening? That's my question to you. If you don't have the habit of prayer, worship and learning, then you're not listening very well.
College is a great time to learn about all sorts of new ideas and beliefs, cultures and theories. It is a great time to question old beliefs and practices and, well, habits. Questioning is great- do it. Don't settle for easy answers though and seek good people who can help you explore the worthy questions you have.
Develop a habit of praying each day. Develop a habit of going to Mass every week. Develop a habit of attending a Bible study or a student discussion at least once a month. |
